HAPPY OCTOBER AND WELCOME TO CYCLE 2!

Just a few quick announcements:

  • Your child is coming home today with a packet that contains a newsletter, conference form, MAP reports for Reading and Math, and their report card for Cycle 1.
  • Please sign up for a conference slot and return that form as soon as possible. You may also sign up using the Remind app by texting k62kdk to 810810.
  • Erdkinder students will be helping out at the Fall Festival next Friday, October 25 from 5pm - 7pm. Students have signed up for times when they are available to volunteer. Please have a conversation with your child and make arrangements for transportation. Students may not stay after school but should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled slot.
  • Parent Education: There will be a Parent Education opportunity for "Intrinsic Motivation" on October 29. More information will be forthcoming.
  • Our Parent Education event last week, "Suicide Prevention and Mental Health", provided excellent information. I'd like to thank Ms. Rebecca for bringing in such a compassionate presenter and for providing much appreciated resources. If you would like more information, please feel to contact Ms. Rebecca at rebecca.burkhart@sccpss.com.

We look forward to seeing you over the next three weeks for our student-parent-teacher conferences. Students need to be present since they are leading their own conferences.

As always, thank you for the privilege of letting us work with your children. It is truly our pleasure.

Ms. Susan

END OF CYCLE 1 APPROACHING

Good afternoon, families :)

I hope that you are all doing well and that your children are feeling settled in to the routines, workloads, and procedures of the middle school program. We have seen a lot of learning taking place during this cycle and hope that your child has been sharing some of this awesome knowledge with you.

THEME TESTS
Please note the following schedule for your child's theme tests next week.
Monday, 10/7 - Social World
Tuesday, 10/8 - Math & Language
Wednesday, 10/9 - Natural World

For the Social World, Natural World, and Math tests, your child will be able to use their notes. We will be reviewing with them this week and making sure they've completed the necessary graphic organizers and other assignments that will ensure they have all the tools necessary to be successful.

The language test is a vocabulary and etymology test, so no notes will be used. Students should have already completed the definitions and etymology work to review.

IMPORTANT DATES
Thursday, 10/3 - DEEP and tutorial
Thursday, 10/10 - Parent Education: Suicide Prevention & Mental Health. Program is at 6pm in the Media Center.

Friday, 10/11 - Half-day for Students and end of the 1st 9 weeks.
Saturday, 10/12 - Saturday School for students who are missing assignments from Cycle 1. *Please note that students who do not complete the work expectations for the cycle will not be permitted to attend the end-of-cycle trips. More information regarding the trips will be forthcoming.

Wednesday, 10/16 - "Bring Your Parents to Lunch Day". Invitations were sent home this week with interested students. If you are planning on attending, there is an RSVP date of Friday, 10/4, so that the cafeteria can plan accordingly. You are also welcome to eat lunch with your child in the classroom from 12:15 - 12:50. Please let us know if you plan on participating.

Friday, 10/18 - Report cards will be printed. You will be able to get your child's report card at your parent conference. Mr. Sean and I will send a sign-up form home soon and are planning on having conferences the weeks of October 28 and November 4.

One program change we would like you to be aware of - Study Hall will not be offered during the second nine weeks. If your child is missing work, they will receive a missing work form to take home, get signed, and returned to school. They will have the opportunity to stay for after-school tutorial on Thursday afternoons until 4pm. If this applies to your child, you will be notified in a timely manner.

As always, we hope you and your child are having a pleasant week and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Ms. Susan
