WEEK OF 9/23/19

Happy Thursday 🙂
As we approach the end of Cycle 1, there are just a few pieces of information that I'd like to share with you.

Just a reminder that there is a DEEP session today until 4:15. I will also be holding tutorial on Thursday afternoons from dismissal until 4:00 for students needing extra help with writing or other areas. If you feel your child would benefit from this, please feel free to get in touch.

Also, since it is Thursday, please have a conversation with them about the work they have completed this week. Ask to see their work charts and kindly sign the back. It's been a little different with most of our 8th grade students gone, as well as Mr. Sean, so please bear with us as we continue to get work checked. *Also, there will not be a study hall period tomorrow so students need to do their best to complete assignments.*

Here is a brief idea of what we've been working on:
Language - using the writing process to write a memoir and continuing to read for Book Club as well as writing reflections and completing reading strategies.
Math - completing a review with a math test occurring Friday, 9/27.
SW - gathering information from presentations on the Middle East, Southern and Western Asia, Africa, and Georgia. We had small group presentations and now students are completing graphic organizers to demonstrate their understanding of the material. There are also Quizlet options in Google Classroom to help students study these regions.
NW - Students are completing vocabulary and notes regarding cells (sections 7-9 in their textbook which is on GC for their convenience).

The official end of Cycle 1 is October 8. We will be having our Social World (SW), Natural World (NW), and Language Vocabulary/Etymology tests on Monday, 10/7, with our end of cycle field trip happening on Tuesday, 10/8. More information will be forthcoming regarding the trip.

Students will be able to use all notes and graphic organizers for the SW and NW tests. If students need to retake any cycle tests, they will have the rest of this week to do so. Our goal is mastery and we truly aim for all students to be successful in obtaining the skills and knowledge necessary to be prepared for their next level of learning.

The 1st nine weeks ends on October 11, which is a half-day for students. Mr. Sean and I will be planning parent conferences for the weeks of October 28 and November 4. A sign-up sheet will be coming home in October.

A few ideas seem to turn into quite a bit of information, but it's definitely better to be prepared for what's ahead.
Thank you again for being such supportive partners in your child's education.

Ms. Susan
